More Success for Waringstown

On Wednesday May 22nd Waringstown Swimming Team took part in the Annual Inter Schools Swimming Gala in Waves, Lurgan. As champions for the first time last year we were motivated to retain the title.

This year ten local schools took part and as always Waringstown were neck and neck with Tannaghmore, another strong swimming school. The title went down to the last relay race with only two points between first and second. The P7 boys gave it all they had to win the relay and thus the overall gala by four points. What a day!

Thank you for all support from parents, friends and of course the P6s and P7s who were very vocal with their encouragement in the gallery.

Mr Brown and Mrs McCollum were very proud of their team who on the day produced their best. Congratulations to them!

Sports Day 2013

We write to inform you that Sports day 2013 is scheduled for Monday 10th June. If the weather is poor it will take place on the next dry day after Monday 10th June.

Sports Day!

We wish to follow on from last year's tremendous success with parents, family and friends welcomed on to the MUGA (Multi Use Games Arena) to spectate and enjoy the whole school community coming together on a glorious summer day. Hopefully the weather will be glorious!

The Sports should commence at 9.30 am and conclude before 12.30 pm.

Break is scheduled for 10.30 am. The PTA are kindly planning to serve light refreshments in the School Hall over Break and we warmly invite you to support this fund raising venture. Who could resist a coffee and scone!

Our children will be using the school chairs so perhaps you should aim to bring along a small deck chair, folding chair or even a rug assuming that the weather is good!

As the school car parks are already full and the MUGA is being used for the Sports we ask that you do not bring your car into the school grounds. Please feel free to walk into the school grounds via the main avenue or the familiar path through the wood as the children do each day.

I am also aware that as we are running the three Key Stage events simultaneously you may need to 'move' from zone to zone to watch your children if they are in different Key Stages. Last year the whole school managed to hold their sports events on the MUGA so feel free to switch between areas.

This is our second year of inviting parents and friends in to celebrate the Sports Day event and we hope you feel very much part of the wider school 'family' as we welcome you to this year's event.

My teachers' paramount concern on the day will of course be the children and their safety.

I trust this guidance is helpful.

PS This year's Fun Day, which will hopefully be an outdoor event, is scheduled for Friday 14th June. Parents and helpers are again welcome to this memorable and enjoyable event in the school calendar!

Speech and Choir Coffee Morning

Dear Parents,

On Friday 22nd of March at 10:30am we warmly invite you into school to hear all of the children who recently attended Portadown Speech Festival recite their poems. We propose that each Year Group will recite their poem as a choral group ie Primary One girls, Primary One boys, etc. The Senior Choir which as always have been practising hard will also sing at the event.

The PTA plan to serve tea/coffee and scones at the event.

As this is a fund raising event we plan to charge £2.00 admission. (Refreshments are of course included in the price).

Why not plan to come along, enjoy a coffee and relax!

International School Meals Day

On Friday the 8th March we celebrated the 'International School Meals Day'. The children helped out by colouring flags of countries from all around the World. These were displayed around the Dining Hall, adding colour and ambience to the occasion.

The menu offered to the children included Shanghi Chicken Curry with Oriental Rice, New York Hot-Dog with Manhattan Dressing served with Surfer Salad Bar and Mexican Wedges. While the Gold Coast Cake and Melon Gondolas caused much excitement and enjoyment as a dessert.

Waringstown Sporting Success

Today in this mornings assembly the whole school gathered to celebrate the fantastic, recent success of the school football and hockey teams.

We are very proud of the Girls' Hockey team, who were crowned the Champions of Mid Ulster in a tournament held in Cookstown yesterday(report and photos to follow).  In a close fought competition the girls ended the victors, displaying a high degree of skill and sportsmanship. Both Mrs. McElhinney and Mrs. McCollum were very proud of the girls and praised them for how well they played and how they conducted themselves yesterday.

The Boys' football teams, as reported yesterday performed excellently in a friendly tournament with The Armstrong PS on our MUGA pitch.

We were also able to celebrate with a large number of swimmers who have achieved their Bronze Survival badge as part of the schools Wednesday afternoon swimming programme.  Thanks must go to Mr Brown and Mrs McCollum who helped prepare the swimmers for this award.

Congratulations to all.
