Loom Bands for Charlene's Project

The Loom Band craze has swept through Waringstown and some of our pupils have certainly been putting their skills to good use! Emma Boyce, Katie Boyce, Anna King and Will Egerton, from Mrs McClelland's class, started to make loom band bracelets and sold them to family and friends to raise money for Charlene's Project, to help the children in Uganda. The group were so enthusiastic that they soon enlisted the help of other friends, Lucy Maxwell, Susannah Gardiner, Alex Gardiner, Jack Boyce and Jack Gardiner, Charlie Boyce and Scott King. They raised the amazing total of £125!!! On behalf of Charlene's project we would like to say a massive thankyou for the efforts of these children, every penny will be used to improve the lives of the children in Uganda! Thankyou!

Loom Bands For Uganda

The loom band craze has continued as lots of other children have been busy making loom band bracelets to give to the children in Uganda. We would like to say a big thankyou to everyone who has made loom band bracelets, donated loom bands and looms and a special word of thanks to the children who are endeavouring to teach Mrs McClelland how to make loom band bracelets so, among other things, she can show the children in Uganda this summer!

Sports Day Reminder 2014

The annual sports day for all children (Nursery-P7) will take place (Weather permitting) on Monday 9th June starting at 9:30 am and ending around 12:15pm.

Parents/grandparents are most welcome to attend but should bring a portable seat to sit on as numbers are usually high.

There will be a break for the children at 10:40am and at this time parents/grandparents can purchase tea/coffee and buns from our PTA.  All proceeds will go directly to school funds.

If Monday 9th is unsuitable then it will be held on the next suitable day starting with Tuesday 10th and so on.

Parents are asked to park outside school and walk in as with so many expected our main concern is the safety of all of our children.

The children love to see their parents in attendance and we as a school look forward to our annual sports day.

Lights, Camera, Math 'a' Magic Visits WPS

The children from Primary 4 to Primary 7 recently enjoyed a fun and interactive performance of 'Lights, Camera, Math 'a' Magic' with Cahoots NI in partnership with Danske Bank and Arts and Business.

Cahoots NI's team of magical Math 'a' Magicians replaced the text books for the day with mind-blowing puzzles, dazzling skill and lots of magic and illusions . . . all with a mathematical twist!  At the end of the performance the children received their very own copy of the Lights, Camera, Math 'a' Magic book which explains how some of the tricks they saw work, as well as added tricks and puzzles.

Lights, Camera, Math 'a' Magic has a number of educational benefits with links to Mathematics and Numeracy, Language and Literacy, The Arts and Personal Development and Mutual Understanding.

Have a look at the pictures from this performance:

Waringstown Hockey Team Are League Champions!

On Wednesday the 7th May the girls hockey team travelled over to Edenvilla to participate in a tournament in order to decide the League Champions.  The five Mid Ulster League Winners had a round robin tournament in order to decide the ultimate winner!  Waringstown met Edenderry in their first game and were narrowly beaten by one goal.  It was now important to win as many games as possible!  Next Waringstown met Dromore, the score from this game ended in a 3-0 result to Waringstown.  Armstrong were the next opponents, the girls played really well and came away with a clear result of 4-0.  This was followed by a tightly fought match against Maralin which ended in a 1-1 draw.  The final match was against Kings Park, it was vital that the girls used this match to earn goal points.  The girls gave 100% and beat Kings Park 4-0.  At the final count Waringstown had drawn with Edenderry in points so it had to go to goal difference.  Thanks to the amazing efforts from every girl on the team, Waringstown won the Tournament!  This proved a wonderful end to Mrs McCollum's final tournament and career as Waringstown Hockey Coach.  Mrs McCollum has been a dedicated coach for many years and has gained great success along the way, this title being one of the best highlights!

Eggs-tra Special Competition!

A little competition for the whole school is being organised by Mrs McCracken with the help of Primary 2 this week.  Mrs McCracken sponsors a child attending the Hidden Treasure School in Uganda and is helping to raise funds.  The children in each class are being given the opportunity to 'guess how many EGGS are in the tub'.  A couple of little chicks come round with the tub each day and everyone has the option of having a guess!  The children are eggscited about the competition as there will be a cracking prize given to the good yolk on Friday 11th April!
